Hi Guys:

Can I spray Mohawk vinyl sealer over Systems 3 Epoxy if I just use it to fill the pores or can I spray it over a seal coat of same epoxy?? I know I can use S3 for base coat of KTM9 and believe some have said that they use as seal coat then use shellac as base coat for KTM9?? Are there a lot of ways to do this? Any practical suggestions will be greatly appreciated!! Got another guitar ready for finishing. Don't feel like I have time to experiment so thought I would call on the knowledge members of OLF. Thanks for all suggestions.

Was also kinda wondering does one have to use thin stainless on the bottom for your side bender? I have some salvaged kids slide stainless pcs. They are thicker then some but in good shape. Or is this a do whatever it takes, use what you have situation?? I athink I could use it for the bottom with no problem. The top pc. might be a little hard to bend to shape. As always your input is desired? Thanks again.

Ron, I've sprayed McFadden vinyl sealer over system 3 stuff with out any problems. Don't know about the Mohawk, but it is in the same family of chemicals. Try it on some scrap if   you don't here from someone whose done that particular combination. Shouldn't slow you down but a day. Spray it, let dry awhile and try pulling it off with some tape. The tape shoulnd pull it up.

I'm A French Polisher ( no I'm not a French guy who polishes...I just F.P. all my guitars (so far)) so I have little to offer the spray guys BUT...a silly question...If you are filling the pores with epoxy (any kind) Why would you need vinyl sealer on top of that? TIA

Many finishes will not adhere well to epoxy. It is almost always best to seal epoxy pore fill with a sealer to give a good bonding surface.

Ron, I`m not the expert on side benders, but I`ll add to the post I started on fastening stainless to the side bender. I did some rebuild on my bender last weekend. Check it out.
